Denmark, WI. – At the 63rd annual meeting of the National Dairy Shrine, Dale Olver, Penn State University Professor from University Park, PA., was elected President of the organization. Meanwhile, Maggie Murphy, Projects Director for Southeast Milk from Summerfield, Florida, was chosen as president-elect.

NATIONAL DAIRY SHRINE TO SHOWCASE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF KLUSSENDORF TROPH - 29 August, 2012
The National Dairy Shrine Museum and the Hoard Historical Museum in Fort Atkinson, Wis. are pleased to feature an exhibit celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Klussendorf Trophy. Opening the week of Tuesday, September 18, 2012, the exhibit will run through the end of October, during a six-to-eight-week period centered around World Dairy Expo.

NATIONAL DAIRY SHRINE INTERNSHIP DIRECTORY AVAILABLE - 9 August, 2012
Denmark, Wis. – College students who are looking for an internship can find an assortment of possibilities on the National Dairy Shrine website. The directory currently contains 33 different internships across the country available to college students. Because some of the internship positions have more than one intern, the actual number of offerings totals 71. There are opportunities for students to take internships in communications, public relations, marketing, on-farm consulting, youth education, and company development.

The prestigious Student Recognition Award honors exceptional graduating seniors from across the country as they begin careers in the dairy industry or further their education.

NATIONAL DAIRY SHRINE HONORS FIVE INDUSTRY PIONEERS - 9 August, 2012
Denmark, Wis. – The dairy industry is rich with history and brimming with leaders who shaped it, some in the limelight and others behind the scenes. Recognizing those individuals and their lasting contributions is a special privilege for the National Dairy Shrine (NDS). This honor is multiplied five-fold in 2012, matching the number of Industry Pioneers being inducted this year into the National Dairy Shrine Museum and Dairy Hall of Fame in Fort Atkinson, Wis. Nominated by NDS members and selected by an anonymous committee, portraits of each inductee will join those of previous winners on permanent display in the museum.

CONRAD AND SELNER AWARDED 2012 MCCULLOUGH SCHOLARSHIPS - 9 August, 2012
Denmark, Wis. – Mikayla Conrad of New Holland, Ohio and Emily Selner of Denmark, Wis. have been selected as winners of the 2012 National Dairy Shrine/Marshall E. McCullough Scholarship given in memory of Marshall E. McCullough, the well-respected nutrition researcher and educator from Georgia. The scholarship is presented to two high school seniors planning to attend a four-year college or university to major in an agricultural communications field. The application process includes both a written application and, once finalists are chosen, a video submission responding to specific dairy industry questions.

2012 KLUSSENDORF AND MCKOWN SCHOLARSHIPS - 9 August, 2012
Denmark, Wis. – The Klussendorf Association, McKown Fund and National Dairy Shrine are excited to announce the seven extremely qualified recipients awarded this year’s $1,500 scholarships. These scholarships are presented annually to students in their first, second or third year at a two-year or four-year college or university in the United States or Canada majoring in dairy science, animal science, agri-business, or other related majors that will develop the skills needed to pursue a career in the dairy industry.

JULKA AND JACKSON AWARDED IAGER DAIRY SCHOLARSHIP - 9 August, 2012
Denmark, Wis. – The National Dairy Shrine is pleased to announce Benjamin Julka and Emily Jackson as recipients of the 2012 Iager Dairy Scholarship. Sponsored by the Charles and Judy Iager family of Fulton, Md., this $1000 scholarship is awarded annually to second-year dairy students enrolled in a two-year agricultural school and pursuing a career in the dairy industry. Recipients are selected based on leadership ability, academic achievement, interest in the industry and future career plans.

GALTON NAMED 2012 NATIONAL DAIRY SHRINE GUEST OF HONOR - 9 August, 2012
Denmark, Wis. – David M. Galton, who spearheaded the nationally recognized Cornell University Dairy Fellows program and was instrumental in the growth of the northeast U.S. dairy industry, has been named the 2012 National Dairy Shrine Guest of Honor.

Denmark, Wis. – Diesel Hitt didn’t grow up on a dairy farm but after his parents let him work on a neighbor’s 45-cow dairy, he mind was made up. Dairying was what he wanted to do. After working from coast to coast from Florida to New York, Mr. Hitt settled on a dairy north of Watertown, New York. Through hard work and determination, he is the deserving candidate for the 2012 National Dairy Shrine Graduate Production Award.

2012 NATIONAL DAIRY SHRINE/DAIRY MANAGEMENT INC. AWARDS OVER $8,000 IN MILK MARKETING SCHOLARSHIPS - 9 August, 2012
Denmark, Wis. – The National Dairy Shrine (NDS) and Dairy Management Inc (DMI) are pleased to announce that $8,500 in scholarships have been awarded to college students in agriculture or related fields. Theresa Twohey received a $1,500 scholarship and seven other $1000 scholarships were also awarded. The NDS/DMI scholarships encourage students to pursue careers in dairy product marketing.

2012 NATIONAL DAIRY SHRINE DISTINGUISHED DAIRY CATTLE BREEDER - JAMES S. HUFFARD III - 9 August, 2012
Denmark, Wis. – James S. Huffard III, Crockett, Va., will be honored as the 40th recipient of the Distinguished Cattle Breeder award by National Dairy Shrine. This is the dairy industry’s highest honor bestowed to a dairy cattle breeder and will be presented Thursday, October 4, 2012, during World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis.

GALTON AND STOLL RECOGNIZED AS NATIONAL DAIRY SHRINE PROGRESSIVE PRODUCERS - 9 August, 2012
Denmark, Wis. – Two exceptional dairy operations have been selected to receive the National Dairy Shrine’s prestigious Progressive Dairy Producer award for 2012. In the small herd category (300 cows or less) Matt and Katie Stoll, Frosty Rock Holsteins of Cascade, Iowa are being honored. In the large herd category (300 cows or more) Todd Galton, Roll-N-View Farm, of Nunda, N.Y. are recognized. Embodying what the award seeks to recognize each farm utilizes progressive management practices to optimize their operations and have a proven track record of continuous improvement.

MAURICE CORE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO MICHAEL SCHMITT - 9 August, 2012
Denmark, Wis. – Michael Schmitt of Rice, Minnesota has been named the 2012 recipient of the Maurice Core Scholarship by the National Dairy Shrine. This $1000 award is given in honor of Maurice Core, the long-time Executive Secretary of the American Jersey Cattle Association, and the Executive Director of the National Dairy Shrine. The funds for this award were donated by the friends of Maurice Core. The Core Scholarship is given to a freshman status student working toward a degree in dairy or a related field with emphasis on leadership and volunteerism.

NATIONAL DAIRY SHRINE IMPROVES DAIRY EXHIBITS - 10 July, 2012
Denmark, Wis. – The National Dairy Shrine Museum in Fort Atkinson, Wis., announces the installation of a new farm diorama in its multi-media dairy display. The new diorama captures the essence of a modern dairy farm. As part of the project, the National Dairy Shrine Museum Committee chose the Hoard’s Dairyman Farm as the model for the display. The new diorama includes scaled replicas of the Hoard’s Dairyman Farm milking parlor, free stalls, calf hutches, tractors and other equipment, and the farm manager’s house.

Denmark, Wis. – The National Dairy Shrine announces the winners of their scholarships for 2012. The scholarships will be presented at the Awards Banquet at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin on October 4th. National Dairy Shrine will provide more than $40,000 of scholarship awards to students at that event.

90th COLLEGIATE DAIRY PRODUCTS EVALUATION CONTEST RESULTS - 13 April, 2012
Denmark, Wis. – For the 90th year the Collegiate Dairy Products Evaluation Contest tested the skill of students from university dairy programs across North America. This year's contest was hosted at the Kraft Foods Research Facility in Glenview, Illinois. Eleven colleges entered thirty three undergraduates and five schools entered seven graduate students for this unique competition.
