Inaugural recipients of four National Dairy Shrine Sophomore Merit Scholarships were awarded to Bethany Dado, Amery, WI; Mary Liebenstein, Dundas, MN; Shannon Rodeffer, Snohomish, WA; and Colleen Smith, Pine Plains, NY. Dado received the $1,500 award, while the other three candidates received $1,000 awards. The scholarship is awarded to a sophomore undergraduate interested in a dairy career.

The $1000 award is given in honor of Maurice Core, the long-time Executive Secretary of the American Jersey Cattle Association and Executive Director of the National Dairy Shrine. The scholarship is awarded to a freshman student working towards a degree in dairy or related fields with an emphasis on leadership and volunteerism.
