The National Dairy Shrine Museum and the Hoard Historical Museum in Fort Atkinson, Wis. are pleased to feature an exhibit on Brown Swiss dairy cattle. National Dairy Shrine elects new President and Directors - October 2010

At the 61th annual meeting of the National Dairy Shrine, Mary Shank Creek, an Ayrshire breeder and dairy producer from Hagerstown , Md. , was elected president of the organization. Meanwhile, Erick Metzger, the Manager of National All Jersey from Reynoldsburg , Ohio was chosen president-elect. Elected to the executive committee along with Creek and Metzger were: Dale Olver, University Park, Pa.; Ken Crandall, Provo, Utah; Maggie Murphy, Summerfield, Florida; and immediate past president Corey Geiger, Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. The National Dairy Shrine board of directors consists of 21 members. This year, two new directors were elected to the board. They included Nancy Feeney, Davenport, Iowa and Fred Hendricks, Bucyrus, Ohio.

National Dairy Shrine Establishes Cornerstone Award to Recognize Industry Partners - October 2010

The National Dairy Shrine introduced a new Cornerstone Award this year to recognize corporate sponsors who have provided long-term support and exceptional contributions to National Dairy Shrine. The Cornerstone Award will not be presented annually, but will be bestowed at the discretion of the board of directors to deserving organizations. The name for the award was chosen to reflect the fact that the support of these companies provides a significant contribution to the foundation of National Dairy Shrine. Two outstanding partners of National Dairy Shrine were honored at the 61 st annual banquet, held September 30, 2010 at World Dairy Expo in Madison , Wis. The inaugural Cornerstone Awards recognized Dairy Farmers of America and Hoard's Dairyman.

Maribel , Wis. - The National Dairy Shrine announced the recipient of the 2010 Graduate Dairy Production Award as Timothy Northrop of York , New York . The award was first presented in 2009 and was created to recognize, encourage and assist qualified four-year agricultural college graduates to pursue careers in commercial dairying and to gain ownership of dairy cattle to grow the size of their herd. The award is sponsored by Elanco Animal Health, and is awarded annually to a candidate who applies during their second to fourth year after college graduation.

Maribel, Wis. - The National Dairy Shrine is pleased to announce that Casey J. Arlig of Friendship, N.Y., is the recipient of the Iager Dairy Scholarship this year. The Iager Scholarship for $1,000 is awarded annually to a second-year student in a two-year agricultural school to pursue a career in the dairy industry. It is based on academic standing, leadership ability, interest in the dairy industry and plans for the future. Casey is currently enrolled at SUNY Cobleskill and is majoring in dairy production and management.

National Dairy Shrine has issued a Membership Challenge to dairy companies, associations, and cooperatives to help recruit more members for the organization. Currently there are more than 18,500 dairy leaders among Dairy Shrine’s ranks, but the group also believes the staff and board members of many key dairy entities have not yet joined. The one-time, lifetime membership costs $50 and it makes a tremendous difference in the lives of many people. Last year alone, National Dairy Shrine awarded more than $31,000 in scholarships to young people. In addition, NDS preserves dairy history, honors key industry leaders, and maintains a history center in Ft. Atkinson, Wis.

The National Dairy Shrine board of directors consists of 21 members. This year, four new directors were elected to the board. They included Coleen Jones, Craigsville, Va.; David Jones, Stillwater, Okla.; David Pierson, Lake City, Minn.; and Bob Rowe, DVM., Verona, Wis.
